There are plenty of luxury sedans out there on the market, though perhaps not quite as many in the subcompact segment specifically. For the Mercedes-Benz lineup, the A-Class has filled that slot since all the way back in 1997. Now in its fourth generation, we thought we’d see how it measures up to one of its biggest competitors by pitting the 2020 Mercedes-Benz A 220 vs the 2020 Audi A3. Check out the table below for a side-by-side comparison of some of the important specifications to take into account.
As you can see from the table, these two vehicles are quite comparable to one another. When it comes to performance, the two sedans’ powertrains are nearly identical. Both of them are able to generate 221 pound-feet of torque, however the Mercedes-Benz A 220 is capable of delivering an extra 4 horsepower. That’s not a huge advantage, but it is a slight leg up for the Mercedes-Benz sedan. Unfortunately, the Audi A3 does fire back by achieving slightly better fuel efficiency, getting two extra miles per gallon combined.
The final row of the table highlights another similarity, both sedans have space for up to five. This is just one more example of how similar the two sedans are to one another. However, there is plenty that separates the two as well, it just isn’t quantifiable in the table. The Mercedes-Benz A 220 is packed full of outstanding features that make it a great luxury sedan option, including things like its dual-zone, double-filtered climate control system, Panorama roof, dual 7” digital display also available at 10.25”, standard 17” wheels or five different available 18” or 19” options, and so much more.
