Those looking to the top of the Mercedes-Benz lineup are sure to find themselves blown away year after the year by what they find on that lofty summit. The S-Class continues to sit firmly atop the peak of, not only Mercedes-Benz, but luxury refinement in general. For 2021, things get even more exciting with the upgraded sedan model. The coupe and cabriolet, for their part, are carried forward unchanged from their delightful 2020 incarnations.
For the sedan, 2021 means the start of an all-new generation for this flagship vehicle. The result is a saloon that boasts grander proportions, a richer interior, more cutting-edge safety equipment, and a slew of truly futuristic elements.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class enjoys standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive capability. Two turbocharged powertrains are on offer for buyers to choose from; there’s also a plug-in hybrid model that gets about 60 miles of all-electric range.
The sedan model of the 2021 S-Class is offered with either a 429-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine, or a 496-horsepower twin-turbo 3.0-liter V8. Both machines enjoy the assistance of EQ Boost technology, a 48-volt hybrid system devised deep in the automaker’s laboratories. The powerplants come paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission, along with the aforementioned all-wheel drive.
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes loaded with futuristic tech. Highlights include a 3D gauge cluster, massive OLED touchscreen, rear-wheel steering (which provides better maneuverability), and active air suspension. This last element makes cornering smoother and also keeps passengers safer if a collision does occur.
The interior of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class places a strong emphasis on screens. Seriously: the sedan model is available with up to five. These monitors include a giant center touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The latter works with additional tech to create a three-dimensional effect, which is very far out. If that’s not your thing, however, worry not- the effect can be turned off.
As one would expect, the 2021 S-Class interior is deeply upscale in both build quality and outfitting. All passengers will enjoy limousine-like accommodations inside this ride.
