Which Is More Convenient: EV or Gas?

Home Car ChargingThe source of power for EVs (electric vehicles) and traditional combustion models is the key difference, and getting more of that energy source is a popular point of discussion. Getting your car the resource it needs keeps you moving on throughout the area, and you’ll want to know you can easily have access to it.

Gas-dependent engines can be refueled at any gas station, just as they have for many years. There are plenty of gas stations around, and you can pull over to fill your tank at any of them. This is the main advantage to gas vehicles, although EVs are closing that gap.

An EV can be charged up from traditional wall outlets, although the true potential lies in specially designed EV charging units. These are being installed throughout the country, with more and more ready every day. You can even have these installed in your home.

Convenience: EV

The key factor that makes EVs more convenient is that you can recharge them overnight at home. Once you park, you can plug in and let your car charge up while you eat dinner, unwind, and get a good night’s sleep. Then you’ll have a charged-up battery ready for the week ahead in the morning.

What About Charging Stations?

When you buy a Mercedes-Benz EV, you’ll be enrolled in the Mercedes me Charge program. For two years, you will have complimentary 30-minute charging sessions at all Electrify America DC fast chargers. These sophisticated devices are making their way across the country, with more coming each day.

EV vs Gas: Performance

Mercedes-Benz EQSElectric and gas motors have vastly different designs to them. Gas engines contain many moving parts that are constantly pumping and sliding to ignite gas and propel your car forward. They require motor oil to lubricate these parts, and the result generates loud noises that need a muffler to contain.

Electric motors have their energy stored and ready, with no combustion needed, and therefore, no synthetic motor oil. That is one less piece of maintenance to keep up with. Many EVs also use dual electric motors, one on each axle. This electric all-wheel drive 4MATIC® gives equal strength to the front and rear wheels for enhanced power and control. Lastly, electric motors emit very little sound when in use. You’ll be surprised at how quiet your drive in an EV is.

Performance Advantage: EV

Between the enhanced capability, intense horsepower, and quiet operation, EVs have the edge when it comes to how they perform on the road. The zero-emission clean drive is another great perk that helps keep the landscape green and beautiful.

EV vs Gas: Maintenance Costs

Brake RepairKeeping your vehicle in road-ready condition is key to your continued adventures. Both EVs and gas vehicles require some similar upkeep, particularly with tire and brake inspections. Because of the different motor styles, upkeep for the engines differ greatly. Electric storage has no need for oil or spark plugs, reducing your time and money spent on upkeep.

Maintenance Advantage: EV

Since there are fewer parts that require maintenance, you will save on visits to the service department when you drive an EV. This helps lower the overall cost of ownership, which is our next focus.

EV vs Gas: Total Costs

Person holding cash in front of a carThe price tag on a new vehicle is only the beginning of your journey with that vehicle. We’ve already seen how gas vehicles require more maintenance costs, and the same is true for fuel costs. On average, the typical driver spends over $1,100 on gas fuel per year.

Electricity, comparatively, is much cheaper. The cost of keeping an EV charged can be as little as $485 a year on average, making it a great way to save year after year. EVs are currently eligible for federal tax credits, as well, offering refunds of up to $7,500.

Total Cost Advantage: EV

Thanks to upfront government tax credits and fuel expenses that are less than half of their gas counterparts, EVs are a smart decision for the long term. It’s a wise investment both financially and for the environment.

Do EVs Have Warranties?

Just like other Mercedes-Benz models, the lineup of EVs comes with a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty to cover you if you need the help of expert technicians and parts. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz EV vehicles come with a 10-year/155,000-mile warranty for the battery. You can be confident that your electric Mercedes-Benz is built to last.
